A new found appreciation for chamomile tea

So along with some of our gardens, I have been growing chamomile.  The flowers started coming through in late June, they were pretty small to start off with, but more and more are coming through (plus Rachel didn't want her two plants, so they are waiting at my house to find a new place to go).

You say tomayto, I say tomahto

Our tomato plants are fully in flower and we're feeling pretty chuffed. We have both the bush type and the upright type, tho we're not so good on remembering the names of the different varieties. Just over a week ago we spotted our first tomato, with Sara's help of course. Now quite a few have shown their perky leaves and tiny green selves. Hope the sun keeps up the roasting and toasting so they turn nice, red and juicy soon!

Putting in the Seed

This poem is so much more eloquent than I can be about the joy of sowing and growing from seed.

Putting In The Seed

by Robert Frost

You come to fetch me from my work to-night

When supper's on the table, and we'll see

If I can leave off burying the white

Soft petals fallen from the apple tree.

(Soft petals, yes, but not so barren quite,

Mingled with these, smooth bean and wrinkled pea;)

And go along with you ere you lose signt

Of what you came for and become like me,

Get re-using!

Ever wondered what to use all those Tetra-Paks for? Those ones that can't be recycled in your street recycling but have to be taken somewhere special. Which means, at least in my house, that they inevitably start piling up. Well, we've started using them for growing salad. Check out our vertical recycled gardening...

Gardening in Tetra Paks

Some instructions for you, who want to try this at home:

Eeek, anyone know what these little black bugs are?

Plague of death?

Plague of death? Our Nasturtiums have been infested by these little black bugs and they've appeared on some Coriander stalks too. Anyone know what they are? And how do we get rid of them?

Welcome to Get Grower blogs!

All the gardens that we are working with this year have been keeping a journal of their food growing experience, what they have sown and when, observations about their space, what works and what doesn't. These notes are kept in a little book offline.

We're now offering this space for them to share that experience more widely and hopefully illustrate it with some pics too...

Happy blogging!
