EVERYTHING IS FREE, KINDNESS IS OUR CURRENCY

Growing A Community Spirit Together.

Birches Head Get Growing CIC aims to meet unmet needs in the community, whilst developing a community spirit. At the point of delivery, our ethos is: ‘everything is free, kindness is our currency’. We wish to support systems of community exchange, whilst encouraging personal growth and empowerment; changing the world, one carrot at a time!

Growing our community through kindness and care

At Birches Head Get Growing, we believe in kindness and sharing. We provide everything for free, so everyone can benefit.

We believe in community exchange to help us achieve our goals, from helping out at our community plot to participating in our friendship groups and stay and play sessions, we aim to create sustainable solutions that have a lasting impact and that are free of charge.

We are a not-for-profit, non-profit making company, where no one takes a salary, and we are totally dependent on volunteers donating their time.

Our work in the community

Pots to plates

We wish to reduce our carbon footprint to the shortest distance possible from source to plate and so we offer opportunities for everyone to grow and share their own produce.

In our initiative, we ask people to team up with friends, working as a small co-operative, and for each person to grow a little bit of something and share their harvest together.

We provide all of the resources and advice that’s required.

Friendship groups

We have a number of friendship groups, which include:

Potter and Natter

This group offers workshops, crafts, taster activities, gentle exercise, gentle gardening, lots of cake, and relaxing company.

Shed at the Bridge Centre

This group is full of practical activities and our projects include making bird boxes, bat boxes, Santa’s sleigh, pyrography, and willow weaving.

Breakfast Clubs

Come along and enjoy free cheesy oatcakes, crumpets, and toast while chatting with friends over a cuppa.

Ditch the Tech

This monthly group is for all ages and abilities and we share together in table top activities, games, snacks, and great company.

Student Support, Training & Education

We offer support and mentoring to BA and MA Social Worker students completing their 70 and 80 day non statutory placements from the University Of Staffordshire.

We offer workshops and volunteering opportunities to Pharmacy students from Keele University.

In addition to this, we offer volunteering opportunities to pupils completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award and pupils on work experience.

We are also able to offer Holiday Activities and Food (HAF), we are approved SEND providers and we have our weekly Stay & Play sessions for children under 5 years of age.

Kind words from our community

“I came with trepidation. I was welcomed with open arms. Such friendliness from generous, caring ladies with whom I have laughed and shared good conversations!”

“During a break in employment, I started Tai Chi and enjoyed the benefits of this ancient exercise, only to discover a very unknown skill I didn’t even know I had in cookery! From Pot To Plate is homework that uses our volunteers as ‘taste testers’ at our weekly meetings. No complaints yet – incredible!!!”
